5 Reasons Why You Should Apply for Summer School on Advanced Materials and Molecular Modelling with QUANTUM ESPRESSO

The QUANTUM ESPRESSO Foundation and the EU MaX Centre of Excellence for Supercomputing Applications, in association with the Jožef Stefan Institute,  are holding a “Summer School on Advanced Materials and Molecular Modelling with QUANTUM ESPRESSO” this coming 16-20 of September 2019. This will be held in Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Register now as the attendance is limited to 40 participants, who will be selected on the basis of their CV and optional recommendation letter(s). The registration fee is 50 EUR. Deadline of registration is on 10th of May 2019.

  1. The summer school will introduce students, postdocs, and other researchers to materials and molecular modelling with QUANTUM ESPRESSO.

2. The school will cover basic concepts as well as recent advances and developments, with emphasis on density-functional-theory based methods and high-performance computing.

In this summer school, you will learn the Modern DFT as it represents a marriage between quantum mechanical theory and high-performance computation which has to lead to a revolution in materials science over the last 20 years. These methods, which can accurately predict materials properties have to lead to the discovery of a host of materials with interesting properties.

3. The school will follow a two-decade-long tradition of QUANTUM ESPRESSO training courses that have been held all over the world and is part of an on-going effort of the MaX CoE to widen the scope of its activities to European countries outside the consortium.

MaX offers integrated training and education in the field of HPC developments and in the computational materials science domain. They recognize that the skills gap is a critical issue, especially in view future developments of the field towards the exascale, and contribute to bridging such gap.

4. A chance to win 500 EUR and an award certificate by presenting the research results during the poster session.

Participants are encouraged to present the results of their recent research during a poster session. The best poster will be awarded a prize consisting of a certificate and a cheque of 500 EUR.

5. Build new connections.

This summer school will be held in the Jožef Stefan Institute which is the leading Slovenian scientific research institute, covering a broad spectrum of basic and applied research located in Ljubljana which is in the centre of Slovenia’s capital and largest city.  The city is known for its university population and green spaces.
